The timepoint at which fetal growth begins to differ by maternal glycaemic status is not well understood. To address this lack of data, we examined gestational diabetes, impaired glucose tolerance, and early pregnancy glucose concentrations in relation to fetal growth trajectories. This cohort study included 2458 pregnant women from the NICHD Fetal Growth Studies-Singletons study, which took place between 2009 and 2013. Women were recruited from 12 clinical centres in the USA. Women aged 18-40…
The primary aim is to compare the effectiveness of intradetrusor injection of 100 unit injection of Botulinum toxin A to mid-urethral sling for change in MUI symptoms 6 months following treatment.
The objective of this study is to evaluate the efficacy of a rapid wean intervention compared with a slow-wean intervention in reducing the number of days of opioid treatment from the first dose of weaning to cessation of opioid among infants receiving an opioid (defined as morphine or methadone) as the primary treatment for neonatal opioid withdrawal syndrome (NOWS).
Selective serotonin/norepinephrine reuptake inhibitors (collectively, SRIs) are the most commonly prescribed antidepressant agents for the treatment of depression in pregnancy. SRIs affect maternal and placental serotonin signaling, which might impact fetal brain development. Alterations in serotonin signaling might also impact the developing gut-brain axis (GBA) via alterations in the fetal enteric nervous system (ENS). Emerging evidence suggests that gestational SRI exposure may be associat…
Disclosed herein is a method of identifying and/or addressing incipient preeclampsia in a patient-subject by the steps of (a) performing a bioassay to determine the level of at least one sialyl Lewis antigen in a said patient-subject at about 25 weeks of pregnancy or earlier; (b) performing a bioassay to determine the level of at least one sialyl Lewis antigen in a pregnant non-preeclampsia one or more subjects at about 30 weeks of pregnancy or later, wherein said at least one sialyl Lewis an…
Loeys-Dietz (LDS) syndromes (types 1-5) are autosomal dominant conditions with pathogenic variants in TGFβR1, TGFβR2, SMAD3, TGFβ2 and TGFβ3 that affect the cardiovascular, musculoskeletal and craniofacial systems. Aortic root dissection is a major cause of mortality in these individuals. Aortic root dilation is often present in childhood and may be recognized in utero. Our case highlights the prenatal ultrasound features of LDS. This article is protected by copyright. All rights reserved.
Obesity and pregnancy are risk factors for venous thromboembolism (VTE). In nonpregnant individuals, abdominal obesity is associated with venous insufficiency. This study aimed to compare venous Doppler volume flow and velocity in the lower extremities of obese versus nonobese women. A prospective cohort study was performed. Duplex ultrasound examined bilateral lower extremity venous flow and velocity (time-averaged mean velocity, TAMV). Flow was analyzed at the superficial femoral (SFV), dis…
To describe patient-reported outcomes and toxicities at time of treatment discontinuation secondary to progression or toxicities in advanced/recurrent cervical cancer patients receiving chemotherapy with bevacizumab.Summarize toxicity, grade, and health-related quality of life within 1 month of treatment discontinuation for women receiving chemotherapy with bevacizumab in GOG240.Of the 227 patients who received chemotherapy with bevacizumab, 148 discontinued study protocol treatment (90 for d…
With advances in cancer therapy, reproductive-aged women can look forward to a life post-malignancy. Fortunately, fertility preservation (FP) may provide relief from potential infertility caused by cancer or associated caustic treatments. Outcomes of FP in pre-treatment reproductive-aged women with gliomas have not been previously characterized.Between 2007 and 2018, 10 patients undergoing FP prior to chemotherapy and/or radiation treatment for gliomas were identified at Brigham and Women's H…
Most preterm infants require respiratory support to establish lung aeration after birth. Intermittent positive pressure ventilation and continuous positive airway pressure are standard therapies. An initial sustained inflation (inflation time >5 seconds) is a widely practiced alternative strategy. To conduct a systematic review and meta-analysis of sustained inflation vs intermittent positive pressure ventilation and continuous positive airway pressure for the prevention of hospital mortality …
