This paper presents a new power control strategy for the grid-connected converter under grid faults. Positive- and negative-sequence reactive powers are controlled separately to effectively support the unbalanced grid voltages. Both maximum phase current limit and maximum active power oscillation limit are considered to make sure that the converter operates safely under grid faults. The spare capacity is fully used to generate active power. Simulation and experimental results are presented to…

Recently, wind power technology has been developed rapidly. The interaction between the wind turbine generator and the grid may cause the stability issue and threats the reliable operation of the power system. So, it is vital to analyze the stability of the wind power grid-connected system. Due to the fluctuation of wind speed, the operation characteristics of the system vary, and the system exhibits different stability characteristics at the varied operating points. Thus, it is important to …

Native Americans (NAs) have a higher prevalence of chronic pain than other U.S. racial/ethnic groups, but there have been few attempts to understand the mechanisms of this pain disparity. This study used a comprehensive battery of laboratory tasks to assess peripheral fiber function (cool/warm detection thresholds), pain sensitivity (eg, thresholds/tolerances), central sensitization (eg, temporal summation), and pain inhibition (conditioned pain modulation) in healthy, pain-free adults (N = 1…

Feature selection can improve the accuracy of machine learning models, but appropriate steps must be taken to avoid overfitting. Nested cross-validation (nCV) is a common approach that chooses the classification model and features to represent a given outer fold based on features that give the maximum inner-fold accuracy. Differential privacy is a related technique to avoid overfitting that uses a privacy preserving noise mechanism to identify features that are stable between training and hol…

A process of forming and the resulting nano-pitted metal substrate that serves both as patterns to grow nanostructured materials and as current collectors for the resulting nanostructured material is disclosed herein. The nano-pitted substrate can be fabricated from any suitable conductive material that allows nanostructured electrodes to be grown directly on the substrate.

Many social animals live in groups of different sizes. Individuals often seem to survive or reproduce better in groups of particular sizes in a given year, and ecologists have thus been puzzled as to why groups with less successful sizes continue to exist. One possibility is that changes in ecological conditions such as food availability or the presence of parasites, and/or climatic conditions such as how wet a year is, lead to certain group sizes being most successful in some years or in som…

Abstract Accurately characterizing hydraulic fracture network and tight oil reservoir properties can lay the foundation for the production forecast and development design. In this work, we proposed a history matching framework for tight oil. We first use the Hough transform method to characterize complex fracture network from microseismic data. Then, we put the fracture network into an embedded discrete fracture model (EDFM) to build a tight oil reservoir simulation model. After that, we furt…

Abstract The gas-liquid cylindrical cyclone (GLCC©, The University of Tulsa, 1994) is a simple, compact, and low-cost separator, which provides an economically attractive alternative to conventional gravity-based separators over a wide range of applications. The GLCC© inlet section design is a key parameter, which is crucial for its performance and proper operation. An in-depth evaluation of specific design modifications and their effect on safety and structural robustness are carried out in …

Simple tandem repeats, microsatellites in particular, have regulatory functions, links to several diseases and applications in biotechnology. There is an immediate need for an accurate tool for detecting microsatellites in newly sequenced genomes. The current available tools are either sensitive or specific but not both; some tools require adjusting parameters manually. We propose Look4TRs, the first application of self-supervised hidden Markov models to discovering microsatellites. Look4TRs a…

The aim of this study was to determine the health utility states of the most commonly used traumatic brain injury (TBI) clinical trial endpoint, the Extended Glasgow Outcome Scale (GOSE).Health utilities represent the strength of one's preferences under conditions of uncertainty. There are insufficient data to indicate how an individual would value levels of disability after a TBI.This was a cross-sectional web-based online convenience sampling adaptive survey. Using a standard gamble approac…
