SCR activity of Cu-SAPO-34 catalyst was reduced by alkali metal ions. The alkali metals ions (Li, Na and K) have shown irregular influences on Cu-SAPO-34. The order of poisoning strengths under 400 °C was found to be: Na > K > Li, which is not consistent with the basicities of their corresponding metals. Experimental results and calculations showed that the alkali metal ions readily replace H and Cu/Cu ions. These exchanges result in the loss of Brønsted acid sites and migration of isolated C…

Adverse effects of non-occupational exposure to cadmium (Cd) are increasingly acknowledged. Since our previous study has showed that orally acquired Cd affects skin, the contribution of genetic background to dermatotoxicity of oral cadmium was examined in two rat strains, Albino Oxford (AO) and Dark Agouti (DA), which differed in response to chemicals. While similar accumulation of Cd in the skin of both strains was noted, the skin response to the metal differed. DA rat individuals mounted an…

The mercury concentration was quantified in frozen and canned fish found in the market of the Republic of Srpska, Bosnia and Herzegovina. Using the method of amalgamation by atomic absorption spectrophotometry with a direct mercury analyzer (DMA-80), significant differences in mercury concentrations among the analyzed fish were found. Frozen pangasius and canned tuna had the highest mercury concentration (59.1 μg/kg and 54.1 μg/kg, respectively). Also, fish from Vietnam had the highest level …

In spite of extensive usage of Laetiporus sulphureus (sulphur polypore) in traditional European and Asian ethno-medicine for centuries, its anticancer therapeutic potential and toxicity profile remained explored in animal models. Herein, using zebrafish (Danio rerio), as a preclinical animal model, we demonstrated that L. sulphureus lectin (LSL) and ethanol extract (LSE) are non-toxic at high doses up to 400-500 μg/mL, while they effectively inhibited angiogenesis and cancer development at mu…

This study was conducted on individuals of European perch from six reservoirs in Serbia with different properties, used for different purposes, and situated at different altitudes. Samples of muscle, gills, and liver, as well as water samples, were used for analysis of elemental accumulation. Histopathological (HP) analysis of gills and liver, and Fulton's condition factor (CF) were used as biomarkers. Analysis of Ag, Al, As, B, Ba, Ca, Cd, Co, Cr, Cu, Fe, Hg, K, Li, Mg, Mn, Mo, Na, Ni, P, Pb…

After NATO bombing of Serbia in 1999, UNEP has identified Kragujevac as one of the four heavily polluted environmental "hot spots". Damaging of industrial and military targets caused the release of substantial amounts of hazardous chemical substances into the environment. This study was conducted in order to access the exposure of residents of Kragujevac city to persistent soil pollutants, twenty years after NATO air campaign. The paper reports the results of measuring radionuclides, polycycl…

Sequence - structure - function paradigm has been revolutionized by the discovery of disordered regions and disordered proteins more than two decades ago. While the definition of rigidity is simple with X-ray structures, the notion of flexibility is linked to high experimental B-factors. The definition of disordered regions is more complex as in these same X-ray structures; it is associated to the position of missing residues. Thus a continuum so seems to exist between rigidity, flexibility a…

The graphene oxide (GO) due to its exceptional structure, physicochemical and mechanical properties is a very attractive material for industry application. Even though, the unique properties of GO (e.g. structure, size, shape, etc.) make the risk assessment of this nanomaterial very challenging in comparison with conventional ecotoxicology studies required by regulators. Thus, there is a need for standardized characterization techniques and methodology to secure a high quality/reliable data o…

Diabetes mellitus is an independent risk factor for stroke and atrial fibrillation. Therefore, the risk/benefit profile of the oral factor Xa inhibitor edoxaban stratified by diabetes is of clinical interest.21,105 patients enrolled in ENGAGE AF-TIMI 48 were stratified into 2 pre-specified groups: without (N = 13,481) and with diabetes (N = 7,624).On average, patients with diabetes were younger, and had a higher body mass index, CHADS-VASc score and baseline endogenous Factor Xa activity. Aft…

A series of analogs of the earlier reported lead compound DVD-445 (thioredoxin reductase inhibitor with anticancer activity) has been synthesized via a modified Ugi reaction and investigated. Seven most potent compounds (with IC below 5.00 μM against recombinant rTrxR1 enzyme) were examined for their effect on cell growth and viability, oxidative stress induction and P-glycoprotein (P-gp) inhibition in human glioblastoma cells cell line U87 and its corresponding multidrug resistant (MDR) cell…
