Evaluate neuropsychological test performance in depressed patients with early-stage Parkinson's disease.Data from 422 participants from the Parkinson's Progression Marker Initiative were examined. The Geriatric Depression Scale-15 was used to categorize depressed and non-depressed participants. Neuropsychological tests measured verbal learning/memory, processing speed, visuospatial ability, verbal fluency, and working memory. Demographic and clinical variables were compared using independent …

Polyoxometalates are known to be inhibitors of a diverse collection of enzymes, although the specific interactions that lead to this bioactivity are still unclear. Spectroscopic characterization may be an invaluable if indirect tool for remedying this problem, yet this requires clear, cogent assignment of polyoxometalate spectra before the complicating effect of their binding to large biomolecules can be considered. We report the use of FT-IR and resonance Raman spectroscopies alongside densi…

We report the first measurement of the double-differential and total muon neutrino charged current inclusive cross sections on argon at a mean neutrino energy of 0.8 GeV. Data were collected using the MicroBooNE liquid argon time projection chamber located in the Fermilab Booster neutrino beam and correspond to 1.6×10^{20} protons on target of exposure. The measured differential cross sections are presented as a function of muon momentum, using multiple Coulomb scattering as a momentum measur…

Neisseria gonorrhoeae (NG) infection has been shown to increase sexual transmission of HIV-1. However, the mechanism of NG-induced enhanced HIV-1 transmission is unknown.(a) The cervical tissues were exposed to NG, and cytokine induction was monitored by measuring cytokine proteins in culture supernatants and cytokine mRNAs in tissues. (b) Transcription and replication of HIV-1 in TZM-bl, U1, and ACH2 cells were measured by Beta-Gal activity and p24 proteins in the supernatant, respectively. …

The study of consciousness within cognitive neuroscience has been dominated in recent years by investigations originating from collaborations between neuroscientific investigators and Buddhist meditation practitioners. The results have been remarkable, particularly when quantitative and qualitative research methods have been combined as they are in the neurophenomenological methodology originated by Francisco Varela. The addition of qualitative data about the experience of the subject greatly…

The MiniBooNE experiment at Fermilab reports results from an analysis of ν_{e} appearance data from 12.84×10^{20} protons on target in neutrino mode, an increase of approximately a factor of 2 over previously reported results. A ν_{e} charged-current quasielastic event excess of 381.2±85.2 events (4.5σ) is observed in the energy range 200

Research on student wellness has highlighted the importance of self-care for medical students; however, scholars have yet to identify the extent to which self-reported engagement in self-care behaviors is associated with attenuation of the negative relationship between stress and quality of life during the initial years of medical education.Using a self-report survey designed to measure self-care, perceived stress, and quality of life, we hypothesized that self-care would moderate the relatio…

We report the first measurement of monoenergetic muon neutrino charged current interactions. MiniBooNE has isolated 236 MeV muon neutrino events originating from charged kaon decay at rest (K^{+}→μ^{+}ν_{μ}) at the NuMI beamline absorber. These signal ν_{μ}-carbon events are distinguished from primarily pion decay in flight ν_{μ} and ν[over ¯]_{μ} backgrounds produced at the target station and decay pipe using their arrival time and reconstructed muon energy. The significance of the signal ob…
