The escalating predicament of multidrug resistant cancer cells and associated side effects of conventional chemotherapy necessitates the exploration of alternative anticancer therapies. The present study evaluated anticancer therapeutic potential of human defensin 5 (HD-5) against colon cancer. The in vivo anticancer efficacy of HD-5 against 1,2-dimethylhydrazine (DMH) induced colon cancer was elucidated in terms of tumor biostatistics, number of aberrant crypt foci (ACF), in situ apoptosis a…

The present study was designed to envisage the antigiardial efficacy of killed probiotic and probiotic protein (PP) of Lactobacillus rhamnosus GG in murine giardiasis. Experimentally, it was observed that animal administered either with probiotic protein emulsified with adjuvant (PP + Giardia) or killed probiotic (killed probiotic (i/p) + Giardia) had significantly reduced Giardia cycle with respect to observed severity and duration of giardiasis compared with Giardia-infected mice. Further, …

Study of charged particle multiplicity distribution in high-energy interactions of particles helps in revealing the dynamics of particle production and the underlying statistical patterns, by which these distributions follow. Several distributions derived from statistics have been employed to understand its behaviour. In one of our earlier papers, we introduced the shifted Gompertz distribution to investigate this variable and showed that the multiplicity distributions in a variety of process…

The propagation of Rayleigh type surface waves in a rotating elastic half-space of orthotropic type is studied under impedance boundary conditions. The secular equation is obtained explicitly using traditional methodology. A program in MATLAB software is developed to obtain the numerical values of the nondimensional speed of Rayleigh wave. The speed of Rayleigh wave is illustrated graphically against rotation rate, nondimensional material constants, and impedance boundary parameters.

When choosing online financial transactions, security is a paramount concern of users. Three categories of banks in India, namely public, private and foreign banks, have a completely different focus on technology and capabilities. The study aims at investigating e-banking users’ perception with regard to online risk for public, private and foreign banks. Online risk perception for the abovementioned banks was assessed on three major risk parameters, i.e. security aspect, privacy aspect, and t…

In this paper, we present a review of forward physics measurements performed with LHC Runs 1 and 2 data. In particular, measurements based on proton–proton collisions with different center-of-mass energies (0.9–13 TeV) are reviewed. We focus on measurements exploring the forward phase space using the available instrumentation at the different LHC experiments, and report on forward jet and forward energy flow measurements.

Multiple endocrine neoplasia type 1 (MEN1) is a syndrome emerging from characteristic mutations of MEN1 gene with concurrently enunciated multiple endocrine and tumours and associated non-endocrine neoplasm. Previously designated as Werner’s syndrome, MEN1 syndrome denominates genomic mutation within chromosome 11q13 or a tumour suppressor gene with a distinctive protein product nomenclated as “menin”. MEN1 syndrome demonstrates an autosomal dominant pattern of disease inheritance where genom…

Herein, bio-compatible self-assembled peptide fibrils have been developed for adsorption of organic pollutants for water remediation with high adsorption capacity. The different morphological motifs of self-assembled dipeptide Fmoc-FW-OMe was formulated using solvent modulation which was characterized by optical microscopy, SEM, XRD and FT-IR. Specifically, the fibril structures were used for selective adsorption of cationic dyes from aqueous solutions with exceptional adsorption capacity not…

Active magnetic bearings (AMBs) are being continuously explored for industrial applications mainly because of their friction-free operation. However, if a rotor-shaft-AMB system is used in applications such as turbo engine of an aircraft or in the propeller shaft of a ship, it would be subject to parametric excitation because of the moving base of the system. Parametric excitation is known to cause instability in systems. This paper addresses the issue of such flexible rotor-AMB system and pe…

Streptococcus mutans is a common principal causative agent of dental caries. In this communication, we describe that the antibodies raised against purified dextransucrase effectively inhibited the growth of S. mutans. The purified enzyme showed 58-fold enrichment, 17.5% yield and a specific activity of 3.96 units/mg protein. Purified IgG fraction of the antibody showed significant affinity with the antigenic protein. Immunotritation of the enzyme with dextransucrase antibody showed a gradual …
