Mal de Debarquement Syndrome (MdDS) is an under-recognized but nevertheless common balance disorder, which in most cases occurs after exposure to prolonged passive motion. The current treatment approaches focus on reducing symptoms, but they can be retriggered. This project aims to shift the focus of MdDS treatment to permanently eliminating the symptom trigger while also minimizing symptoms.

The primary purpose of this project is to evaluate the safety of a laryngeal pacemaker device to provide a new treatment termed bilateral laryngeal pacing for the treatment of bilateral vocal fold paralysis (BVFP) (Aim 1). Outcome measures related to voice and ventilation will also provide initial insights into the efficacy of bilateral (Aim 2) and unilateral (Aim 3) stimulation of the implanted device for the treatment of BVFP.

The purpose of this study is to evaluate how changing conditions of speech-language treatment (namely, amount of repetition and distribution of practice schedule) affects the language outcome of participants with aphasia following a stroke. Using a computer based speech and language therapy program, participants will practice conversational scripts that are either short or long. Participants will practice for either 2 weeks (5 days a week) or for 5 weeks (2 days a week).

Immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs), although promising, have variable benefit in head and neck cancer (HNC). We noted that tumor galectin-1 (Gal1) levels were inversely correlated with treatment response and survival in patients with HNC who were treated with ICIs.
