In this study, solvothermal method was used for the synthesis of MnFe₂O₄ nanoparticles at different processing period of 7, 14, and 21 h. X-ray diffraction (XRD) pattern study confirms that MnFe₂O₄ nanoparticles correspond to the face-centered cubic spinel structure and belong to the [227] space group. From Raman spectra analysis, two major peaks were observed at 476 and 616 cm, which correspond to the vibration modes of MnFe₂O₄ nanoparticles; especially, the broad peak at 620 cm (A1g) corres…

This chapter provides a professional perspective of the relevance and necessity of strategic leadership in PK-12 settings. As school systems continue to evolve, it will be paramount that school leaders are strategic in the way they lead. Specifically, school leaders must be deliberate and thoughtful in the decisions they make, in order to ensure maximum success. This has become even more important in a high-stakes environment in which student scores and organizational efficiency is often link…

This chapter presents an examination of the various uses of iPads and applications (“apps”) for students with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) in special education and speech therapy settings. Although many individuals view these technologies as less academic and as more entertainment or “busy tasks,” if appropriately vetted, and with proper training, they can serve a significant purpose in the lives of individuals with ASD. Using this technology in educational and therapeutic environments can …

Intercultural responsiveness in the Second Language Learning Classroom should encompass addressing bicultural education. Bicultural education must expand the spectrum of choice for cultural identity that students will eventually make, but should not make choices for them. The purpose of this chapter is to provide details, which incorporate researched-based information that will provide a deeper understanding of biculturalism. Biculturalism encompasses more than just cultural behaviors. Indivi…

A liquid droplet on a micropatterned substrate equalizes into either the Cassie-Baxter (also called Cassie for short) or the Wenzel state. This paper investigates the wetting phenomena on ideal micropatterned surfaces consisting of straight micropillars at different pillar dimensions and spacings (the word "ideal" refers to being chemically homogeneous and free of submicron-scale roughness all over the micropatterned surface). Two modeling approaches are used: (1) a thermodynamic approach ana…

In this study, isotopic compositions of atmospheric total gaseous mercury (TGM) were measured in the Mt. Changbai (MCB) temperate deciduous forest and the Mt. Ailao (MAL) subtropical evergreen forest over a 1-year period. Higher δHg values were observed under the forest canopy than above the forest canopy in the MCB forest. The vertical gradients in δHg and ΔHg are positively correlated with the satellite-based normalized difference vegetation index (NDVI, representing the vegetation photosyn…

The purpose of this study was to examine baccalaureate nursing (BSN) students' perception of spirituality and spiritual care as a component of holistic nursing practice. The specific aim of this study was to determine the perception levels of spiritual care, religiosity, and spirituality in first- and last-semester BSN students. This descriptive cross-sectional study used a convenience sample of BSN students. Participants ( = 150) completed demographics with self-reflected levels of religiosi…

This research seeks to understand how local emergency managers perceive and define social vulnerability. While there has been a significant increase in research on social vulnerability recently, little is known about the extent to which that knowledge is being translated into practice. To address that void, we conducted semi-structured interviews with a sample of local emergency managers (N=24), asking them to describe what social vulnerability means to them. The analysis identified four prim…

Abstract The goal of this study is to examine how cultural values are preserved and transmitted by grandparents rearing grandchildren in one community in the southeast region of the Yukon-Koyukuk Census Area in Alaska. The eight participants (six females and two males) lived in a community in the Kusilvak Census Area, with ages ranging from 47 to 73 years old. Participants’ took part in a semi-structured interview, which were then transcribed and coded into larger themes of 1) loss of traditi…

Drops that move uphill on a gradient surface have been introduced in the past. In this paper, however, we present drops that climb a surface that does not have a gradient to begin with. In our study, motion of Octadecylamine in Tetradecane (ODA/TD) drops were recorded via a high-speed camera. The spreading and retraction of ODA/TD drops occur in three stages. On horizontal surfaces, initially, the drop spreads in all directions. Then, after some time, which is a function of the solute concent…
