Specificity analyses of peptide binding to human leukocyte antigen (HLA)-A molecules have been hampered due to a lack of proper monoclonal antibodies (mAbs) for certain allomorphs, such as the prevalent HLA-A1 for Caucasians and HLA-A11 for Asians. We developed a mAb that recognizes a conformational epitope common to most HLA-A allomorphs. The mAb, named A-1, does not discriminate peptides by amino acid sequences, making it suitable for measuring peptide binding. A stabilization assay using T…

This study aimed at presenting a rare nontraumatic spondylolisthesis of the axis and considering its possible cause. Traumatic spondylolisthesis of the axis, called hangman’s fracture, frequently occurs as a high-energy trauma. However, nontraumatic spondylolisthesis of the axis is quite rare, and relevant literature on this condition is scarce. We reported a case of a 49-year-old man who had spondylolisthesis of the axis without experiencing a traumatic episode. Plain radiograph and CT image…

The Hayabusa2 spacecraft investigated the small asteroid Ryugu, which has a rubble pile structure. We describe an impact experiment on Ryugu using Hayabusa2’s Small Carry-on Impactor (SCI). The impact produced an artificial crater with a diameter >10 m, which has a semicircular shape, an elevated rim and a central pit. Images of the impact and resulting ejecta were recorded by the Deployable CAMera 3 (DCAM3) for >8 min, showing the growth of an ejecta curtain (the outer edge of the ejecta) an…

The Clinical Practice Guidelines for Bladder Cancer edited by the Japanese Urological Association were first published in 2009 and a revised edition was released in 2015. Four years has passed since the 2015 edition, and the clinical practice environment surrounding bladder cancer has drastically changed during that time. The main changes include: (i) insurance coverage of a new diagnostic method for non-muscle-invasive bladder cancer; (ii) insurance coverage of an immune checkpoint inhibitor…

Despite recent advances in immunosuppressive therapy for patients with primary nephrotic syndrome, its effectiveness and safety have not been fully studied in recent nationwide real-world clinical data in Japan.A 5-year cohort study, the Japan Nephrotic Syndrome Cohort Study, enrolled 374 patients with primary nephrotic syndrome in 55 hospitals in Japan, including 155, 148, 38, and 33 patients with minimal change disease (MCD), membranous nephropathy (MN), focal segmental glomerulosclerosis (…

Excessive activation of the sympatho-adrenomedullary system plays a pathogenic role in triggering and sustaining essential hypertension. We previously reported that, in normotensive rats, intracerebroventricularly (i.c.v.) administered neuropeptides, corticotropin-releasing factor and bombesin induced activation of the sympatho-adrenomedullary system, and that brain cannabinoid CB receptors negatively regulated this activation. In this study, we investigated the effects of brain CB receptor s…

Ulvan is a complex water-soluble sulfated polysaccharide in the cell wall of green algae belonging to genus Ulva. It is composed of l-rhamnose-3-sulfate (Rha3S), glucuronic acid (GluA), iduronic acid (IduA), and d-xylose (Xyl) distributed in three repetition moieties. The first step of a bacterial ulvan degradation is the cleavage of the β-glycosidic bond between Rha3S and GluA/IduA through a β-elimination mechanism by a ulvan lyase to produce oligo-ulvans with unsaturated 4-deoxy-L-threo-hex…

To evaluate the effectiveness of the transarterial infusion of iodized oil and gelatin particles for marking before CT-guided percutaneous cryoablation (PCA) in patients with renal cell carcinoma (RCC). This study included ten patients (seven men, three women; mean age 53 years) with 13 RCCs between July 2016 and September 2017. The transarterial infusion of iodized oil and gelatin particles was considered successful when iodized oil accumulated in the target area on CT. CT value of the tumor…

Postpartum depression (PPD) is a global emotional distress that affects women and their offspring regardless of their culture. The association between nausea and vomiting of pregnancy (NVP) and PPD has been widely described only for the severe form of NVP. We aimed to assess the relationship between PPD and NVP with regards to its severity. Data from the Japan Environment and Children's Study (JECS), a birth cohort study, were analyzed. PPD was assessed using the Edinburgh Postnatal Depressio…

Combined with sediment pollutant analysis, the gastropod Cipangopaludina cahayensis was chosen as an indicator organism to evaluate the environmental behavior of trace metals and the aquatic ecological risk that they present in a backwater area of Xian'nv Lake. Based on hydrological characteristics, 24 sampling sites representing the main stream (MS), tributaries (TR), lake area (LA) and lake tributaries (LT) were collected. The results revealed that cadmium (Cd) was the main pollutant and th…
