Decades of research suggest that species richness depends on spatial characteristics of habitat patches, especially their size and isolation. In contrast, the habitat amount hypothesis predicts that (1) species richness in plots of fixed size (species density) is more strongly and positively related to the amount of habitat around the plot than to patch size or isolation; (2) habitat amount better predicts species density than patch size and isolation combined, (3) there is no effect of habit…

With social media platforms becoming primary news sources, concerns about credibility judgments and knowledge grow. This study ( N = 233) experimentally tests the effects of multiple source cues on Facebook news posts on credibility and knowledge. Judgments of story credibility were directly influenced by media source cues, but not friend source cues. Involvement in the source topic moderated the effects of these source cues, such that particular combinations influenced credibility differentl…

Sea level rise (SLR) associated with climate change is intensifying permanent submersion and salinity in salt marshes. In this scenario, hybridization between native and invasive species may result in hybrids having greater tolerance of abiotic stress factors than their parents. Thus, understanding the responses of native and invasive halophytes and their hybrids to interacting physiological stresses imposed by SLR is key to native species conservation. We analysed how salinity, inundation de…

The purpose of this study was to examine associations between substance use disclosure during the clinical interview and on the Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory-2-Restructured Form (MMPI-2-RF) Substance Abuse Scale (SUB) among forensic inpatients. Of the 223 archival reports reviewed that had MMPI-2-RF data, 69% of the MMPI-2-RF protocols were valid based on standard validity criteria, resulting in a final sample of 154 patients (98 men, 56 women). We found that patients who endors…

We are on the precipice of significant change in industry. Some have called it industry 4.0, and without significant attention, business management educators will be unfamiliar and underprepared—and as a result, they will not adequately equip their students for change. This essay explores the need for a digital mindset and tech literacy in business management education. The essay begins by examining why the need exists and continues by discussing some of the critical concepts that must be int…

The Catholic Church has been a major player in the field of education, both nationally and internationally. Numerous religious orders, such as the Jesuits, Felicians, created higher education institutions. Such institutions afforded college education to first-generation students and were a ladder for upward mobility. A perception lingers of Catholic institutions being an exemplar of Christian values of love, acceptance and social justice. In reality, some institutions are far more successful …

This chapter describes use of a metacognitive tool to facilitate teacher reflection in an online graduate reading practicum course. The Teacher Learning Instrument (TLI) is a tool designed to support the evidence-based practice of reflection on teaching through collaborative inquiry. The purpose of using the TLI in an online reading practicum course is to facilitate candidates' reflections on teaching struggling readers in one-to-one intervention settings with the goal of refining instruction…

Controversial data exists in the current literature in regard to the use of neoadjuvant chemoradiation (nCRT) in patients with clinical T3N0 (cT3N0) rectal cancers, specifically based on location and relation to peritoneal reflection. We aimed to analyze the impact of nCRT on oncologic outcomes among cT3N0 rectal cancers, depending on the tumor height from anal verge (AV).A retrospective analysis of patients with cT3N0 rectal cancers was included from a query of a prospectively maintained rec…

Just beginning to understand the potentials new technologies might bring to the learning environments of young children, we invited authors to submit articles that investigate multimedia sources and their effect on learning settings. Two main themes emerged—how digitization changes the learning environment and adult-child interaction in particular and which digital affordances enrich digital materials and how these changes affect learning. We finish with “alerts” to further explore more the h…

The purpose of this chapter is to discern the oppressive and prejudicial treatment inflicted on Black students at John Carroll University, a private white institution. This chapter will outline instances of oppression, culturally and racially insensitive behavior, and lack of solidarity that one student of color in particular experienced throughout her four years of attendance. The goal of this chapter is not only to inform others of the treatment of this student, but to encourage students of…
