The ongoing pandemic of coronavirus disease-2019 (COVID-19) is being caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus-2 (SARS-CoV-2). The disease continues to present significant challenges to the health care systems around the world. This is primarily because of the lack of vaccines to protect against the infection and the lack of highly effective therapeutics to prevent and/or treat the illness. Nevertheless, researchers have swiftly responded to the pandemic by advancing old and new…

The various forms of HIV-related stigma continue to serve as major barriers to HIV care and treatment among men who have sex with men (MSM). The study of resilience within the context of HIV-related stigma among MSM living with HIV represents a promising area of research to inform the development of future HIV interventions for this population. We examined resilience within the context of HIV related stigma among MSM living with HIV in Louisiana with a particular interest in how resilience ma…

The present disclosure generally relates to a system and method for multiple beam laser deposition of thin films wherein separate laser beams are used to ablate material from separate targets for concurrent deposition on a common substrate. The targets may include, but not limited to polymers, organics, inorganics, nanocrystals, solutions, or mixtures of materials. A target may be disposed on a tiltable mount to adjust the direction of the ablation plumes. Multiple ablation modes may be concu…

Durable viral suppression (DVS) is needed to reduce HIV transmission risk and prevent new HIV infections. We examined changes in viral suppression and correlates of DVS among 97 criminal justice-involved (CJI) Black men living with HIV in Louisiana enrolled in a linkage, re-engagement, and retention in care intervention. Most participants (75%) were Black men who have sex with men. Forty-four percent (44%) were virally suppressed at baseline and only 20% had achieved DVS over a 12-month perio…

Part 1 - The Urban-WATER project will create a unique interdisciplinary extracurricular certificate program at Dillard University that will enhance diversity and community problem-solving in the geosciences, particularly related to urban water issues. The purpose of this program is to train students in real world water-related environmental issues within an urban setting in order to grow the next generation of scientists and an urban water workforce. The intransigent environmental issues in t…

A method for open-air pulsed laser deposition by providing a target and a substrate, configuring a laser directed to the target, reducing the pressure in the zone between the target and substrate by providing a suction having an opening proximal to the target. Optionally, shielding the zone between the target and substrate from ambient oxygen by flowing an inert gas from outside the zone. The method may accommodate very large substrates and multiple targets and multiple laser beams. The targe…

? DESCRIPTION (provided by applicant): Like much of the city it called home for nearly 140 years, the Dillard University (Dillard) campus was devastated in 2005 by Hurricane Katrina. The university has since rebounded strongly with more than $150 million spent in campus renovation and restoration, including a new $43 million, 160,000 sq. ft. professional science building. This is in strong reaffirmation of the university's commitment to the training of its mostly local studet population, whic…
