Background: Summer camps engage millions of youth in enrichment opportunities during the summertime while employing a substantial young adult workforce to provide high-quality programs and services to camp participants. Workplace fatigue has been implicated in camp-related injury and illness events, yet few studies have targeted fatigue among camp employees. Purpose: This study aimed to better understand how fatigue impacted employee performance as well as strategies for reducing the negative…

Cloud computing has enabled entirely new business models for high-performance computing. Having a dedicated local high-performance computer is still an option for some, but more are turning to cloud computing resources to fulfill their high-performance computing needs. With cloud computing it is possible to tailor your computing infrastructure to perform best for your particular type of workload by selecting the correct number of machines of each type. This paper presents an efficient algorit…

This work describes the development and verification of a cascade feedback regulation system to reduce temporal field fluctuations to allow nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy experiments in powered magnets. Powered magnets provide higher magnetic fields than persistent mode superconducting magnets, but require an external power source to achieve high fields. High magnetic field strengths provide improved sensitivity and spectral resolution for NMR spectroscopy. Unfortunately, power…

Patient-specific ex vivo models of human tumours that recapitulate the pathological characteristics and complex ecology of native tumours could help determine the most appropriate cancer treatment for individual patients. Here, we show that bioprinted reconstituted glioblastoma tumours consisting of patient-derived tumour cells, vascular endothelial cells and decellularized extracellular matrix from brain tissue in a compartmentalized cancer-stroma concentric-ring structure that sustains a ra…

Through 3 studies, we investigated whether angularity and roundness present in faces contributes to the perception of anger and joyful expressions, respectively. First, in Study 1 we found that angry expressions naturally contain more inward-pointing lines, whereas joyful expressions contain more outward-pointing lines. Then, using image-processing techniques in Studies 2 and 3, we filtered images to contain only inward-pointing or outward-pointing lines as a way to approximate angularity and…

High-bone-mass (HBM)-causing missense mutations in the low density lipoprotein receptor-related protein-5 (Lrp5) are associated with increased osteoanabolic action and protection from disuse- and ovariectomy-induced osteopenia. These mutations (e.g., A214V and G171V) confer resistance to endogenous secreted Lrp5/6 inhibitors, such as sclerostin (SOST) and Dickkopf homolog-1 (DKK1). Cells in the osteoblast lineage are responsive to canonical Wnt stimulation, but recent work has indicated that …
