Because outcomes studies are known to facilitate effective use of funds, economic realities in lower-resource countries increase the need for outcome measures for wheelchair effectiveness in these areas. Effective use of funds based on evidence is especially needed since the level of wheelchair provision is low, and many wheelchairs are inappropriate for their intended users. There are very few existing wheelchair specific assistive technology outcome measures. The Wheelchair Satisfaction Que…

Abstract Central to the struggle in design ideation research is the quantification of abstract and qualitative measures. Among these measures, creativity, originality, and novelty are some of the most subjective and generally disagreed upon constructs. In recent years in the design community, novelty has primarily been measured with two distinct styles of metrics: relative infrequency and perceived ratings. Relative infrequency captures how rare an idea is within an idea set for an objective …

Wheelchair outcomes measures are useful to support evidence-based practice in wheelchair provision, especially in low- and middle-income countries (LMIC). The Wheelchair Interface Questionnaire (WIQ) was developed to provide a professional perspective on the quality of the interface between a wheelchair and its user. Studies conducted during the development of the WIQ indicated it has face validity and content validity. The objective of this field study was to conduct a subsequent investigati…

A LMS (Least Mean Square) algorithm used as an adaptive noise canceller has been implemented on an Artix 7 FPGA (Field Programmable Gate Array) board. The FPGA is used for this research due to its advantages of real-time processing and pipelining which are not possible with other implementation boards. The purpose of implementing the LMS algorithm is to create a noise canceling device that removes noise from the input to achieve the appropriate output. Noise cancelation devices are needed for…

Because resources are limited in low- and middle-income countries (LMIC), the development of outcome measures is of interest. Wheelchair outcome measures are useful to support evidence-based practice in wheelchair provision. The Wheelchair Interface Questionnaire (WIQ) is being developed to provide a professional perspective on the quality of the interface between a wheelchair and its user. This article discusses the development of the WIQ and its face and content validity.During field studies…

Bioprinting is an alternative method for constructing tissues/organs for transplantation. This study investigated the cross-linker influence and post-printing modification using oligochitosan and chitosan for stability improvement.Oligochitosan was tested as a novel cross-linker to replace Ca for pectin-based bio-ink. Oligochitosan (2 kD) and different molecular weight of chitosan were used to modify the bioprinted scaffold. Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy and scanning electron…
